INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY AT THE PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE FOR CBT
Our therapists use an evidence-based approach artfully tailored to each client's needs
At the Performance Institute for CBT, individual therapy is the foundation of what we do. Working one-on-one, you and your therapist will collaborate to identify your goals, understand the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and build practical skills you can use for the rest of your life.
We see clients in person in New York City (Midtown Manhattan) and Stamford, Connecticut, as well as via HIPAA-compliant telehealth across New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and more than 36 additional states through PSYPACT.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Individual therapy at our practice is structured, goal-oriented, and grounded in scientific research — not open-ended exploration. Before treatment begins, your therapist will conduct a thorough assessment to understand your history, your goals, and the specific challenges you are facing. From there, you will collaboratively build a treatment plan.
Sessions typically run 45 minutes and are usually scheduled weekly, particularly early in treatment. Your therapist will assign between-session exercises — because real change happens in your daily life, not just in the therapy room.
EVIDENCE-BASED MODALITIES WE USE
Depending on your needs, your individual therapy may draw from:
• CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) — the most researched form of psychotherapy, focused on changing the thinking habits and behavioral patterns driving your distress.
• ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) — helps you stop fighting your thoughts and emotions, and instead commit to actions that align with your values.
• ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) — the gold-standard treatment for OCD and phobias, involving gradual, supported exposure to feared situations.
• CBTi (CBT for Insomnia) — a structured, evidence-based approach to chronic sleep problems shown to outperform sleep medication in long-term outcomes.
• CBTp (CBT for Psychosis) — a specialized protocol for individuals experiencing or at risk for psychosis.
WHO WE WORK WITH
Our practice specializes in treating anxiety disorders (including social anxiety, performance anxiety, audition anxiety, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety), OCD, adult ADHD, depression, clinical perfectionism, insomnia, and LGBTQ+ mental health issues. We have a particular specialty in working with performing artists — actors, singers, musicians, dancers — who face unique psychological pressures in their professional lives.
All of our therapists work on a private-pay, out-of-network basis. We are happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
