GROUP THERAPY AT THE PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE FOR CBT

Time-limited therapy groups allow clients to learn and grow together in a more economical way while relating to others experiencing similar challenges

Group therapy offers a powerful alternative — or complement — to individual therapy. Working alongside others who share similar challenges can normalize your experiences, reduce isolation, and accelerate progress in ways that one-on-one therapy sometimes cannot.

Our groups are time-limited, structured, and facilitated by a licensed therapist trained in evidence-based methods. They are not open-ended support groups — they are skill-building programs with clear goals and a defined curriculum.

ACT FOR ACTORS — OUR SIGNATURE GROUP PROGRAM

Our primary group offering is ACT for Actors, an 8-week group therapy program developed by Dr. Michael Jacobs specifically for musical theater performers and other performing artists struggling with audition anxiety and performance anxiety.

The program is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which has been shown in research to effectively reduce the avoidance behaviors that make performance anxiety worse over time. Participants learn to:
• Accept anxious thoughts and physical sensations rather than fighting them
• Identify values-driven goals for their performance careers
• Commit to concrete, anxiety-tolerating behaviors like attending auditions consistently

The group is offered periodically via telehealth, making it accessible to performers anywhere in the country. Contact us to be placed on the waitlist for our next group.
